Getting Started
Connecting to Health Connect (Android)
Set up Sunu on Android with Google Health Connect so your Fitbit, Galaxy Watch, and other wearables sync automatically.
On Android, Sunu uses Google Health Connect to sync health data from your wearables and fitness apps. Health Connect is the unified health data hub on Android, supported by Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin, Google Fit, and many other apps.
Before You Start
Health Connect is built into Android 14 and later. On older versions of Android, you may need to install Health Connect from the Google Play Store:
You'll also need at least one source of health data — for example Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin Connect, or Google Fit — connected to Health Connect.
Connecting Sunu to Health Connect
When you first open Sunu, the onboarding flow will prompt you to grant Health Connect permissions.
Step 1: Tap Connect to Health Connect during onboarding (or Profile → Health Connection later)
Step 2: Android will open a permissions screen showing every data type Sunu is requesting
Step 3: Tap Allow all for the smoothest experience, or pick specific data types to share
Step 4: Tap Done to return to Sunu
Your data will start syncing immediately. It may take a few minutes for historical data to appear.
Managing Health Connect Permissions
You can change which data Sunu has access to at any time:
Step 1: Open the Health Connect app (or go to Settings → Apps → Health Connect)
Step 2: Tap App permissions → Sunu
Step 3: Toggle data types on or off individually
Sunu will re-sync based on the new permission set.
Supported Data Types
Sunu reads the following data types from Health Connect:
- Steps, active calories, distance, floors climbed
- Heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV
- Blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate
- Sleep sessions and stages
- Workouts (all exercise types)
- Weight, height, body fat, BMI
- Hydration
Any data from a wearable or app connected to Health Connect becomes visible to Sunu once permissions are granted.
Troubleshooting
Data is missing or not syncing
- Open Sunu and pull down on the Home tab to trigger a manual refresh
- Confirm the source app (Samsung Health, Fitbit, etc.) is actively syncing to Health Connect
- Check that Sunu has permission for the specific data type in Health Connect settings
- Make sure the source app is running in the background and not battery-optimized out of syncing
Permissions screen doesn't appear
If Android doesn't prompt for Health Connect permissions:
- Open the Health Connect app directly
- Tap App permissions
- Find Sunu in the list and tap to grant access manually
"Health Connect not available"
On older Android versions, you may need to install Health Connect from the Play Store. Android 14+ has it built in.
Clinical Records (Medical Records)
Clinical health records (FHIR-formatted medical records) are currently only available on iOS through Apple Health. Health Connect does not yet support FHIR medical records. You can still add medications, conditions, supplements, and allergies manually in the Sunu app.
🔋 Battery Tip
If syncing stops unexpectedly, check your Android battery settings. Some manufacturers aggressively battery-optimize background apps, which can prevent Health Connect from updating. Exempt your wearable's companion app and Health Connect from battery optimization for reliable syncing.
